Memorable Hard Hits Monday, Sep 3 2012

As a football fan I have seen plenty of amazing games and hard hits. There are few particular “smackdowns” that have stuck out in my memory bank. Though I have seen many, I have three in particular I will never forget. (more…)

NFL Studs n’ Duds Tuesday, Oct 4 2011

Calvin Johnson:

The Lions wide receiver has been nothing short of spectacular this season. Helping the team come back from a 20+ point deficit and beat the Cowboys on their home turf. What was impressive was the touchdown he managed to steal being covered by 1…no….2….no 3, re-read that 3!!!!! DEFENDERS!!!!!!! He also tied an NFL record for four straight games with two touchdowns.

-The Lions remain perfect at 4-0 tied with the Green Bay Packers.

 Baltimore Ravens Defense:

It was defensive blow after defensive blow Sunday night against the Jets. The Ravens D won the game. Both offensive sides were sloppy and inconsistent. The Ravens D managed scored 3 touchdowns to propel over the Jets. This has been the most defensive scores in franchise history. I am sure every one of these touchdowns made Rex Ryan grind his teeth.

Eli Manning:

Ok well although he had a fumble that lead to an Arizona touchdown and although it took him time to really get comfortable for three quarters of the game, Eli was gold the fourth quarter. He led the team to a come from behind victory, threw for 321 yards and 2 touchdowns to beat Arizona 31-27.

-Really have to give it to the Giants, after they have been plagued with injuries before and during the season they have managed to go 3-1 and tie for the division lead with Washington. Who’d a thunk it!?!?

Mark Sanchez:

…..Is it just me or is he terrible 99.9% of the time….

After Sunday’s loss against the Ravens, I realized how lucky the Jets are that they have a strong and competitive defense. Sanchez is a hot mess. This team reminds me of the 2007 Chicago Bears led by Rex Grossman…..yea right….more like Brian Urlacher and the Bears defense. Same applies here. If the defense isn’t winning the game for Sanchez, he certainly isn’t doing it himself. He turned the ball over FIVE times! As mentioned earlier, the Baltimore D racked up all the points to win this game….see why!?! His quarterback rating after the game was an abomination! WAKE UP! Have you seen who your wide receivers are lately!? Santonio Holmes, Plaxico Burress, LT, Dustin Keller for crying out loud, this guy has the whole friggin cake and can’t add the frosting!

 Tony Romo:

He is really starting to scare me a bit. I don’t know if he swallows the red or blue pill before the games.  He is the epitome of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. He is the Cybil of our time. I don’t understand how you blow a 20+ point lead….well I guess it’s just this simple……three interceptions and two returned for touchdowns. It was a huge momentum change for what looked to be a dissembled Lions team.

 Marion Barber:

Listen, if you’re going to celebrate, try not to make an ass out of yourself (although it was pretty funny to watch). That is all.

All Aboard the Cam Wagon Tuesday, Oct 4 2011

Cam Newton….I really didn’t expect to be talking about him, well at least not in a positive light. I suppose the more you hear about a person the less interested you are in them. I mean unless you happen to be a Carolina fan. Even then, how much can you take? (more…)

Hester Breaks Record Monday, Oct 3 2011

Chicago- During kick off returns against the Bears, players have heard time and time again DO NOT kick the ball to Devin Hester and for good reason. (more…)

NFL STUDS n’ DUDS Saturday, Oct 1 2011

Darren McFadden:

McFadden has a total of 393 rushing yards the first 3 games of the season. Sunday against the Jets he rushed for 171 yards and 2TDs. A force to be reckon with on the football field….flat out unstoppable.

Wes Welker:

Welker set a new franchise single game record with 16 catches 217 yards and 2TDs in Sunday’s loss against the Bills. Welker currently leads the NFL in yards and catches. Brady is hot right now and seems to be focusing a lot of his tosses to Welker. Guess Ocho-stinko really isn’t working out that well…huh?

Jermichael Finley:

Finley showed us why he is so important to the Packers when healthy. Sunday against the Bears, he had 7 catches for 85 yards and 3TDs. Finley hasn’t played a full season in the NFL yet. Hopefully he will be able to do so this year. If that is the case, I would have to say the Packers have a good chance to repeat as Super Bowl champs.

Phil Costa:

The Cowboys center made life for the ailing Tony Romo even more difficult. He had one of the most terrible performances I have seen. He basically made up his own snap count. Half the time Romo wasn’t ready for the ball! Lucky for Costa he got a pep talk from the veteran Audre Gurode. If he doesn’t shape up this week for the Lions, he better not step foot on the field the rest of the season! I have spoken!

Michael Vick:

…..Michael you are a quarterback in the NFL…..I hate to break it to you but your gonna get hit. A LOT! Especially when you are up against a divisional rival. I can’t believe he had the nerve to call out the refs for not pulling flags for clean plays. Ok, maybe one was questionable but still, get it together and do your job! He has since apologized for the comments made.

Antonio Cromartie:

Frustrated during the Raiders game and was clearly being targeted by the refs. The worst move was the mishandling of the ball after a kickoff in the 3rd quarter… should have attempted soccer with Ocho-stinko if you wanted to kick around a ball, jackass. He left the game later in the 4th quarter with a bruised rib.

Romo still Worthy of our Support? Tuesday, Sep 27 2011

When Tony Romo replaced Drew Bledsoe in 2006 as starting QB for the Dallas Cowboys, I was more than excited for my team. ANYONE had to be better than Bledsoe, right? (more…)

Charles with Early Exit Sunday, Sep 18 2011

Detroit– Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles made an early and unexpected exit off the field midway through the first quarter. Fantasy football owners of Charles, start to panic! The injury at first was questionable and a return possible but by the third quarter there was no sign of his return; he ultimately would not at all. (more…)

Bronzed Statue Unveiled Friday, Sep 16 2011

Baton Rouge– The LSU campus recently unveiled a 900lb bronzed statue of retired NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal. The statue is a life size representation of Shaq performing his double handed dunk (the university’s website has reported) in his LSU uniform. Fans, Coach Trent Johnson, former players, and coaches all attended the ceremony. (more…)

Filling out your NCAA bracket, my friends, is no easy task. When you become as obsessed with it as I have, the idea of March “madness” is very true. I don’t normally have my NCAA bracket figured out this early (nobody could) and this weekend of tough loses for top rankers and huge upsets is prime example WHY!! (more…)
